A joyful heart is good medicine......
The Marans breed was developed in the mid 1800's in Marans, France. They are a dual purpose heritage breed with a
wonderful disposition and layer of the infamous dark brown to mahogany colored egg. They are excellent foragers and are
large, beautiful birds that we really enjoy on our little homestead. According to Sandhill Preservation Center, in their first
year of laying they are superb layers but in their second year on they love to become broody and egg production will drop off
as a result. These birds are raised primarily for their egg color and for table birds but they have a really nice temperment
as well.
Our birds have been hatched from eggs from private breeders and our hens are from the Fugate, Ripley and Bill Braden
lines. We had a beautiful Cuckoo Marans rooster from the Cratty line, and now have his son for breeding.

Currently we are not breeding Cuckoo Marans but are leaving this page up for Reference. We are concentrating on our
